I love You, Lord, I love You more
Than anything I know,
You have Your hand upon my life
And I would have it so.
I do not want to go a step
Without Thy guiding voice,
For just in Thee do I have life
And in Thee, I rejoice.
I dare not trust my own device
For wisdom lies in Thee,
I wish I had to words to say
How much You mean to me.
But since I can't and since You know
Because You know all things,
I'll simply say, "I love You, Lord,"
And let You give it wings.
Light shineth into darkness and the night
Flees before its coming and is gone,
Until it seems that there is only light
And all the world is brightened by the dawn.
Light shineth in the darkness of the heart
And sin must loose his grasp and flee away,
And let the glory of God's mercy start
To flood this life and bring a brand new day.
"I love You, Lord," my glad heart sang
My tongue picked up the cry
And sent it upward to my God,
"I'll love You till I die."
"What have you done?" my Savior asked,
"To prove this love you claim?
Where did you go, what did you give?
Where did you speak My name?"
"But Lord, Thy love is in my heart
Oh, surely You can see
The wondrous love that bubbles up
And rushes forth to Thee."
"The love I ask is not restrained
For just My sake alone,
I would you scatter forth abroad
And make My mercies known.
"For what you do for other men
You also do for Me,
Oh, love your God in such a way
That all the world can see."
